How to Pray (Salah)

Prayer (Salah) is one of the five pillars of Islam. Muslims pray five times a day.

Fajr

2 Rakaats

Dawn prayer - Before sunrise

Dhuhr

4 Rakaats

Noon prayer - After the sun passes its zenith

Asr

4 Rakaats

Afternoon prayer - Late afternoon

Sunset prayer - Just after sunset

Ablution (Wudu)

Wudu is the ritual purification performed before prayer.

  1. 1 Make intention (Niyyah) in your heart
  2. 2 Say "Bismillah" (In the name of Allah)
  3. 3 Wash both hands up to the wrists three times
  4. 4 Rinse the mouth three times
  5. 5 Rinse the nose three times
  6. 6 Wash the face three times
  7. 7 Wash the right arm up to the elbow three times, then the left
  8. 8 Wipe the head once
  9. 9 Wipe the inside and outside of the ears
  10. 10 Wipe the back of the neck with the backs of the hands used for the head
  11. 11 Wash the right foot up to the ankle three times, then the left
