بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Chapter 90 : Verse 1

لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ

I swear by this city, Makkah -

Transliteration

La oqsimu bihatha albaladi

Chapter 90 : Verse 2

وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ

And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city -

Transliteration

Waanta hillun bihatha albaladi

Chapter 90 : Verse 3

وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ

And [by] the father and that which was born [of him],

Transliteration

Wawalidin wama walada

Chapter 90 : Verse 4

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ

We have certainly created man into hardship.

Transliteration

Laqad khalaqna alinsana fee kabadin

Chapter 90 : Verse 5

أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ

Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?

Transliteration

Ayahsabu an lan yaqdira AAalayhi ahadun

Chapter 90 : Verse 6

يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا

He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."

Transliteration

Yaqoolu ahlaktu malan lubadan

Chapter 90 : Verse 7

أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ

Does he think that no one has seen him?

Transliteration

Ayahsabu an lam yarahu ahadun

8
Chapter 90 : Verse 8

أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ

Have We not made for him two eyes?

Transliteration

Alam najAAal lahu AAaynayni

9
Chapter 90 : Verse 9

وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ

And a tongue and two lips?

Transliteration

Walisanan washafatayni

Chapter 90 : Verse 10

وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ

And have shown him the two ways?

Transliteration

Wahadaynahu alnnajdayni

Chapter 90 : Verse 11

فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ

But he has not broken through the difficult pass.

Transliteration

Fala iqtahama alAAaqabata

Chapter 90 : Verse 12

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ

And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?

Transliteration

Wama adraka ma alAAaqabatu

Chapter 90 : Verse 13

فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ

It is the freeing of a slave

Transliteration

Fakku raqabatin

14
Chapter 90 : Verse 14

أَوْ إِطْعَـٰمٌ فِى يَوْمٍ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍ

Or feeding on a day of severe hunger

Transliteration

Aw itAAamun fee yawmin thee masghabatin

Chapter 90 : Verse 15

يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ

An orphan of near relationship

Transliteration

Yateeman tha maqrabatin

16
Chapter 90 : Verse 16

أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ

Or a needy person in misery

Transliteration

Aw miskeenan tha matrabatin

Chapter 90 : Verse 17

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ

And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.

Transliteration

Thumma kana mina allatheena amanoo watawasaw bialssabri watawasaw bialmarhamati

Chapter 90 : Verse 18

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ

Those are the companions of the right.

Transliteration

Olaika ashabu almaymanati

Chapter 90 : Verse 19

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ

But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.

Transliteration

Waallatheena kafaroo biayatina hum ashabu almashamati

Chapter 90 : Verse 20

عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ

Over them will be fire closed in.

Transliteration

AAalayhim narun musadatun

Chapter 90

I swear by this city, Makkah - [1]

And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - [2]

And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], [3]

We have certainly created man into hardship. [4]

Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? [5]

He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." [6]

Does he think that no one has seen him? [7]

Have We not made for him two eyes? [8]

And a tongue and two lips? [9]

And have shown him the two ways? [10]

But he has not broken through the difficult pass. [11]

And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? [12]

It is the freeing of a slave [13]

Or feeding on a day of severe hunger [14]

Or a needy person in misery [16]

And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. [17]

Those are the companions of the right. [18]

But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. [19]

Over them will be fire closed in. [20]
