بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ
Recite in the name of your Lord who created -
Transliteration
Iqra biismi rabbika allathee khalaqa
خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ
Created man from a clinging substance.
Transliteration
Khalaqa alinsana min AAalaqin
ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ
Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous -
Transliteration
Iqra warabbuka alakramu
ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ
Who taught by the pen -
Transliteration
Allathee AAallama bialqalami
عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
Taught man that which he knew not.
Transliteration
AAallama alinsana ma lam yaAAlam
كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ
No! [But] indeed, man transgresses
Transliteration
Kalla inna alinsana layatgha
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ
Because he sees himself self-sufficient.
Transliteration
An raahu istaghna
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ
Indeed, to your Lord is the return.
Transliteration
Inna ila rabbika alrrujAAa
أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ
Have you seen the one who forbids
Transliteration
Araayta allathee yanha
عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ
A servant when he prays?
Transliteration
AAabdan itha salla
أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
Have you seen if he is upon guidance
Transliteration
Araayta in kana AAala alhuda
أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ
Or enjoins righteousness?
Transliteration
Aw amara bialttaqwa
أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
Have you seen if he denies and turns away -
Transliteration
Araayta in kaththaba watawalla
أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
Does he not know that Allah sees?
Transliteration
Alam yaAAlam bianna Allaha yara
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ
No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock -
Transliteration
Kalla lain lam yantahi lanasfaAAan bialnnasiyati
نَاصِيَةٍ كَـٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ
A lying, sinning forelock.
Transliteration
Nasiyatin kathibatin khatiatin
فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ
Then let him call his associates;
Transliteration
FalyadAAu nadiyahu
سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ
We will call the angels of Hell.
Transliteration
SanadAAu alzzabaniyata
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩
No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah].
Transliteration
Kalla la tutiAAhu waosjud waiqtarib
Chapter 96
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - [1]
Created man from a clinging substance. [2]
Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - [3]
Who taught by the pen - [4]
Taught man that which he knew not. [5]
No! [But] indeed, man transgresses [6]
Because he sees himself self-sufficient. [7]
Indeed, to your Lord is the return. [8]
Have you seen the one who forbids [9]
A servant when he prays? [10]
Have you seen if he is upon guidance [11]
Or enjoins righteousness? [12]
Have you seen if he denies and turns away - [13]
Does he not know that Allah sees? [14]
No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - [15]

Then let him call his associates; [17]
We will call the angels of Hell. [18]
